Beyond the Classroom’s daytime performances for students pre-K through high school feature productions by outstanding national and local performing arts companies that bring literature and music to life. Aligned with many Wisconsin DPI standards, these live performances will enrich and enhance your students educational experience.

TICKET PRICES: $10/ticket for 10am, $8/ticket for Noon, Groups of less than 10 are $15/ticket. One free chaperone ticket for every 10 paid students.

Charlotte’s Web – May 3, 2024 • 10am & Noon

TheaterWorksUSA – Running Time: 60 minutes

Charlotte’s Web is based on E.B. White’s loving story of the friendship between a pig named Wilbur and a little gray spider named Charlotte. Wilbur has a problem: how to avoid winding up as pork chops! Charlotte, a fine writer and true friend, hits on a plan to fool Farmer Zuckerman. She will create a “miracle.” Spinning the words “Some Pig” in her web, Charlotte weaves a solution which not only makes Wilbur a prize pig but also ensures his place on the farm forever.

Frindle – October 5, 2023 • 10am & Noon

Griffin Theatre Company – Running Time: 60 minutes

Nicholas Allen has plenty of ideas. When he ends up in Mrs. Granger’s language arts class, he has his best idea ever. He decides to create his own word…FRINDLE! Before long Nick’s word creates a buzz in his school, his town and then to his surprise it spreads all around the country, and a power struggle erupts with the strict Mrs. Granger. Will the word “Frindle” win? Based on the multiple award-winning best-selling novel by Andrew Clements this quirky, imaginative tale about creative thought and the power of words will have your young audience inventing their own words.

The Carp Who Would Not Quit & Other Animal Stories –
November 7, 2023 • 10am & Noon

Honolulu Theatre for Youth – Running Time: 55 minutes

These retellings of traditional fables and folktales from Japan and Okinawa teach important lessons of persistence, respect and kindness. Japanese and Okinawan music, language and culture are the heart of this performance featuring clever animals, puppetry, live songs, Koto and Taiko instruments, and a whole lot of fun for young audience members and their families. The five stories featured in the performance are part of the tradition of Mukashibanashi, or the “tales of long ago,” and include The Carp Who Would Not Quit, The Mice and the Rolling Musubi, the legend of the Rabbits making Mochi in the Moon, and more!

The Rainbow Fish – January 18, 2024 • 10am & Noon

Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia – Running Time: 60 minutes

The first of three tales introduces the most beautiful fish in the sea, whose scales shimmer in all the colours of the rainbow. He is admired—and resented—by the entire underwater world, until a clever octopus advises him to give each fish one of his scales. Further adventures follow as The Rainbow Fish finds the courage to explore the great unknown deep sea, discovering a new world with wonderful sights and friendly creatures of all shapes, sizes and colours who are eager to make his acquaintance. The underworld wonderland is the setting for an introduction to the concept of opposites. As a fitting finale, the story ends with the most satisfying opposite of all—give and take—as Rainbow Fish shares one of his shining scales with a friend.

Rosa Parks and Friends – February 9, 2024 • 10am & Noon

Bright Star Touring Theatre – Running Time: 50 minutes

Take a journey through time with Rosa Parks and where some of the most remarkable figures from history come to life. Meet abolitionists like Frederick Douglass, William Lloyd Garrison, Sojourner Truth, and Civil Rights leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and, of course, Rosa Parks! An important story for any audience, this show gives a remarkable view of the challenges met by these amazing Black Americans. This historical journey will delight and inspire audiences with the triumphant power of the human spirit shown by these true heroes of history.
