ARTSREACH IN THE COMMUNITY

Beyond the Wilson Center walls, ArtsReach provides organizations and schools in the greater southeastern Wisconsin community with engaging hands-on experiences with professional local and visiting artists through:

In-School Residencies: Enrich your regular school curriculum and/or after school programming through the power of the arts! Multi-week programming allows students to engage with the local professional teaching artists in classes that vividly enhance students’ classroom experiences to inspire self-confidence, team building, and creative thinking through the arts. Programs can include, but are not limited to: murals, creative writing, music, dance, or performing arts.

Workshops and Master Classes: Each season, the Wilson Center provides a limited number of workshops and masterclasses with artists from our world-class Performing Arts Series. Puppet-making with touring theatre groups, jazz workshops with renowned musicians, dance classes with international dance companies, and more—students gain first-hand experience with professionals of the highest technical and artistic mastery in their field. For more information about master class opportunities, contact our education department at education@wilson-center.com.

ARTSREACH RESIDENCY WITH CAPITOL WEST ACADEMY

"Our [arts outreach] is rather unique in the sense that we get these fabulous musical performers to come through and we bring them to schools. I compare it to if we could take the painting off the wall at the art museum and bring it into the school. We're bringing these world-class musicians into schools."

– ANNALIESE WOLFF, DIRECTOR OF ENGAGEMENT, SHARON LYNNE WILSON CENTER FOR THE ARTS

Check out our WUWM's Lake Effect interview around the 17-minute mark, as our Director of Engagement Annaliese Wolff and Milwaukee artist Francis Annan Affotey talk about our ArtsReach residency at Capitol West Academy in connection with the final performance in our 2018/2019 season, the Billboard-topping, Gullah-inspired quintet Ranky Tanky! We are so grateful to our Residency Sponsor Herzfeld Foundation for making arts outreach experiences like this possible.
