Diversity

The Board and Staff of the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts welcomes the creativity and inspiration that come from diverse cultures, experiences, and expressions.

The Wilson Center has a track record that demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.  The Wilson Center offers a tremendous forum for people of any background to get together while enjoying the arts.   It also offers the opportunity to present diverse art or art forms to those that might not otherwise have the opportunity to experience them.

The Wilson Center has an approach to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion that centers around three key objectives:

  • Presentation of diverse performances and art forms

  • Communication and audience development that reaches communities in the region

  • Community support and engagement

    1. Recruitment of community members to volunteer and to the board who represent diverse segments of the community

    2. Elimination of economic barriers to art experiences through the provision of free concerts and art classes as well as scholarship opportunities.

Non-Discrimination Policy

The Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts is committed to a work environment in which all individuals are treated with dignity, decency and respect. Each individual has the right to work in a professional atmosphere that promotes equal employment opportunities and prohibits unlawful discriminatory practices, including harassment. The Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts expects that all relationships in among persons in the center will be business-like and free of bias, prejudice and harassment. Employees should be able to work and learn in a safe atmosphere characterized by mutual trust and the absence of intimidation, oppression and exploitation. This policy has been developed to ensure that all employees can work in an environment free from unlawful harassment, discrimination and retaliation. All people, regardless of their positions, are expected to comply with this policy and any complaint in violation of such policies will be investigated and resolved appropriately. Anyone who has questions or concerns should speak with the General Manager or the Artistic Director.

In accordance with anti-discrimination law, The Sharon Lynne Wilson Center prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type and affords equal employment opportunities to employees and applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, national origin, political affiliation, sexual orientation, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.

The officers of the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts will be responsible for the dissemination of this policy. All directors, managers and supervisors are responsible for implementing equal employment practices and the HR department is responsible for overall compliance, maintaining records in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
