Pen and ink are among the oldest artistic mediums. Because ink dries quickly and cannot be erased, it can be challenging to work with. This class will introduce you to essential pen-and-ink techniques and help you gain the confidence to create drawings you’ll be proud to share with family and friends. Students will explore mark-making techniques such as hatching and cross-hatching to create texture, depth, and value. Additional topics include creating value, using ink washes, and combining washes with line drawings. Students will practice drawing still-life objects as well as working from photographic source materials. By the end of the class, you’ll feel comfortable using pen and ink to create expressive and detailed drawings. Students will use studio supplies for the first class and then be advised as to what supplies to purchase for the rest of the series.
