Dukes of Dixieland • Thursday 1pm

Dukes of Dixieland

It’s Mardi Gras at the Wilson Center with the Grammy-nominated DUKES of Dixieland! In two matinee performances, audiences will be transported to New Orleans with the music of Dr. John and Fats Domino, Huey Smith and Louis Prima, and many of the group’s own tunes.

Originally formed in 1948, the DUKES of Dixieland are a New Orleans “Dixieland”-style revival band. While the original DUKES disbanded in the early ’70s, producer John Shoup re-formed the band in 1974. They have performed with symphony orchestras around the world—including the Cincinnati, Cleveland, Chicago, National, New York Pops (in Carnegie Hall) orchestras—never straying long before returning to their home base, the Steamboat Natchez. Their gospel recording, Gloryland, was nominated for a Grammy, and in 2011, they recorded with The Oak Ridge Boys on Country Meets Dixie.
