Juan de Marcos and the Afro-Cuban All Stars

Following in the footsteps of legendary Cuban orchestras Los Van Van, the Buena Vista Social Club, and Irakere, the four-time Grammy-nominated Afro-Cuban All Stars have become one of the best-known and most successful Cuban orchestras performing today. Led by the “Quincy Jones of Cuban music” Juan de Marcos, the All Stars ensemble concept spans three generations of musicians and promotes the full range of Cuban musical styles. Known internationally for their 1997 album A Toda Cuba Le Gusta, which was recorded at the Buena Vista Social Club sessions, many of the band’s musicians have become international stars, including such brilliant performers as Rubén González, Ibrahim Ferrer, and Guillermo Rubalcalva. The band’s current roster consists of the finest Cuban expatriate musicians in the world today, all alumni of Cuba’s greatest bands. “It’s actually hard to beat this kind of music – soulful, technically brilliant, sexy and uplifting” (The Arts Desk).
