Experience the benefits of bringing yoga, music, and nature together with a Vinyasa yoga class led by ProHealth West Wood Health & Fitness Center instructor Katie Vieth, featuring live acoustic guitar performed by 2016 Schubert Club Guitar Competition winner Ben Dameron. Suitable for all levels of students, with modifications for injuries or beginners, this class will be held in our beautiful outdoor Burke Colonnade and is designed to encourage a deep and resilient strength while bringing your body, mind, and spirit into healthy balance. Advance credit card registration is $5; at-the-door registration is $10 (cash only, subject to space availability). Please bring your own mat and towel.
Following the class, we invite you to join us in celebrating the greatest guitarists of today and tomorrow at our sixth annual international Wilson Center Guitar Festival! Saturday’s activities will include the live final competition rounds in classical, fingerstyle, jazz, and rock & blues; free masterclasses; a vendor hall filled with the latest & greatest guitar gear; and a Backyard Block Party featuring Milwaukee nomad/songwriter/folk punk guitar superstar Brett Newski at 2:30pm, Milwaukee’s newest rock and neo-soul band For The Culture at 4:30pm, followed by a Festival Finale solo performance featuring each of the four first-place winners of our 2018 competition at 6:30pm! About the instructor: Katie Vieth RYT completed her 200 hour Vinyasa training with Soleil Lune Yoga Center. For her, Yoga has brought about a deeper, resilient strength which she hopes to help cultivate in others. She currently teaches a variety of classes in both fitness and studio settings. When not on her mat, Katie enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She is an avid runner, cross-country skier, and is passionate about music, good food, and the outdoors.
About the guitarist: Born into a household of classical pianists, guitarist and composer Benjamin Allan Dameron has enjoyed a life of rich and diverse musical influences. At the age of 12 he was drawn to the sonority of the guitar. He received his B.M. from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. As a classical guitarist, he was the winner of the Guitar Foundation of America’s San Francisco 2012 Regional Symposium college level competition. In 2015, he took Second Prize in the Northwest Guitar Festival’s Adult Division, and was awarded first prize at The Schubert Club’s guitar Competition in March of 2016. He received his Master’s Degree with the Cuban Maestro Rene Izquierdo at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He has studied with Kevin Callahan and Sérgio Assad while also working extensively with David Tanenbaum and Marc Teicholz.
