Green Shirt FAQs

What is a “Green Shirt” Volunteer?
Also known as “Green Shirts,” our summer Arts Camp volunteers are vital leaders in creating a fun and engaging experience for our campers. Volunteers will work with a team of 10-15 other high school and/or college students passionate about the arts and community. Each participant receives a green Arts Camp shirt that helps our campers identify staff members able to help throughout the building ... thus the name “Green Shirt”! Who can be a Green Shirt?
Our summer Arts Camp is an exciting opportunity for high school or college-level students. We recruit students who are interested in studying education, arts education, theatre, art, dance, or who just enjoy making a difference in their community! Volunteers should be team players who like working with children and who want to gain a hands-on experience working with a diverse group of elementary-level students. Volunteers must be available for one or both full weeks of camp. A positive attitude, self-initiative, and problem-solving skills are some of the qualities we look for in volunteers.

What are the duties of a Green Shirt volunteer?
Green Shirt volunteers will provide classroom and administrative support through a variety of duties including (but not limited to):

  • Support classroom instructors by helping to guide and supervise campers.

  • Promote a positive camp spirit through team building exercises and camper mentoring.

  • Encourage campers with art projects and programming as needed, modeling skills, providing tips, and helping them to problem solve.

  • Assist in organizing lunches and assemble daily snack.

  • Support and lead large-group activities and games.

  • Help supervise campers at arrival and pick-up.

  • Administrative or clerical duties as assigned by camp director.

What hours do Green Shirts normally work?
We have two weeks of summer Arts Camp and prefer if volunteers can attend both! Camp dates are:

  • June 17-21, 2019 and July 15-19, 2019

  • 8:30am-4:30pm

  • Lunch is provided!
