Promenade / Grand Hall

Along the Promenade into the Wilson Center are Peter Flanary’s “22 Steps”, a series of river rock boulders sculpted to create a grand entrance. Upon entering the majestic Grand Hall visitors are greeted by Susan Falkman’s sculpted fireplace “Streaming”.

The two-story Grand Hall with exposed wood beams and a floor-to-ceiling hand-carved limestone fireplace lend an open, airy environment with views of an outdoor sculpture garden. With approximately 3,750 square feet, the Grand Hall is ideal for pre-show events, special concerts and receptions up to 230 people.

This educational and recreational fine arts facility is dedicated in memory of Sharon Lynne Wilson who died of breast cancer in 1995.

Sharon and Don met at Northwestern University and their 30 years of marriage were filled with joyous memories. After moving to Brookfield in 1972, they raised their three children-Bradley, Katharine and Jennifer-in the Elmbrook School District. Sharon was an active participant in many community organizations including her service as President of the Brookfield Junior Women’s Club; President of the Brookfield Elementary School PTO; Vice President and Board Member of Friends of Elmbrook Hospital and member of the Junior League of Milwaukee. Her love of fine arts was displayed by her ardent support for and involvement with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra League and the Florentine Opera Club.

Whatever Sharon tackled, and the endeavors were many-wife, mother, teacher, church activities, career in real estate, and volunteer-she did with enthusiasm and a wonderfully positive attitude.

A bronze titled “Joy of Music” stands in the Sculpture Garden just outside the Wilson Center. It was created by Colorado artist George Lundeen and is a gift from Donald Wilson to his wife, Kate.
