Strohmaier Sculpture & Botanical Garden at the Wilson Center enhances the visual appeal of the immediate grounds, expands the perception of the arts to include botanical arts, and reduces overall landscaping expenses for the Wilson Center.  The Wilson Center programs several outdoor events annually including Hidden River Art Festival, the free Starry Nights Outdoor Concert Series, outdoor studio arts classes, and a nature-themed arts camp.  In addition, community members often rent the Wilson Center to host outdoor weddings, receptions, and gatherings.

In June 2009, the Wilson Center garden became an approved project of the SouthEast Wisconsin Master Gardeners, Inc. (SEWMG).  Approval of the gardens allows Master Gardener Volunteers (MGV) to fulfill community service hours at the Wilson Center and provides financial support to transform the plant beds in front of the Wilson Center into appealing, interesting, and educational gardens to be enjoyed by the community.

Two plant beds have been transformed by Master Gardeners and community volunteers: One plant bed is dedicated to native perennials (planted in June 2009); the other is a butterfly garden with a walking path (planted in May 2010).  As required by SEWMG, more than 50% of the plants will be labeled to identify the plant by scientific name, common name, plant family, native origin, or cultivar name.

The SouthEast Wisconsin Master Gardeners, Inc. is a nonprofit corporation that offers many service, educational, and social opportunities.
