Raul Malo Lucky One November 20, 2010 Thank you for coming. Lead singer and chief songwriter for The Mavericks, Raul Malo has released his first album of original material in seven years. His songs range from the silly to the sublime and draw on his deep love of country, rock, jazz, and Latin music. Although completely contemporary, Lucky One recalls the great tunes of the ‘50s, ‘60s, and ‘70s, made famous by Malo’s musical heroes: Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Merle Haggard, and Buck Owens. “With his new album…Malo returns to his own songwriting with an ADVENTUROUS set that swaggers through HONKY-TONK, zoot suit, and moments of SMOOTH JAZZ and deep Latin soul, all propelled by Malo’s supple, Orbisonian vocals.” —Austin Chronicle |
