Jonathan Kreisberg Quartet & The Troy Stetina Band
Friday, August 14 @ 7:30 pm
Guitarist Jonathan Kreisberg has been steadily building his name as one of the most compelling composers and performers in jazz. Currently based in New York City, he frequently tours worldwide and records with his own groups as well as with such jazz greats as Dr. Lonnie Smith, Lee Konitz, Joe Locke, Stefano Dibatista, Ari Hoenig, Joel Frahm, Don Friedman, Greg Tardy, Donald Edwards, Jane Monheit, and Yosvany Terry. Jonathan has now recorded eight CDs as a leader, including One, his recent all-solo guitar CD, and Wave Upon Wave, his latest JKQ offering.
Troy Stetina is an internationally renowned, virtuoso guitarist and solo artist specializing in rock, metal, and classical-electric guitar. He is the guitarist of the Milwaukee-based modern rock band Second Soul, whose new album Beyond the Infinite is described as “an ecstatic build and crescendo of metal … marvel and majestic mayhem” (Guitar Addiction). The leading authority in guitar instruction, Stetina has authored more than 40 rock and metal guitar methods for Hal Leonard Corp., which have been translated into numerous languages and have sold more than one million copies. His classic book/CD guitar method, Speed Mechanics for Lead Guitar, is often referred to as the “shredders’ Bible.”
Leo Kottke with special guest Antoine Dufour
Saturday, August 15 @ 7:00 pm
Fingerstyle legend Leo Kottke has composed scores for film soundtracks, childrens shows, and a symphony; and he has also released more than 21 LPs. Kottke is known for his self-deprecating, loopy sense of humor and brilliant stage presence. “What happens in the fretboard appears to mirror the sudden ebbs and flows in his thought process,” wrote Billboard’s Jim Bessman of Kottke’s concert style.
Opening for Kottke, Antoine Dufour is a 34-year-old Canada-based guitarist known colloquially among the best guitar players in the world as a musician’s musician. To fans of popular music, he deftly combines jaw-dropping guitar playing skills and an artistic soul in crafting instrumental compositions that reflect ambient and progressive music that transcends global cultures and languages.
This final concert of the 2015 Festival will also include brief performances by the first-place winners of the Rock/Blues, Fingerstyle, Jazz, and Classical competitions!
