Creative Writing with Jacquelyn Mitchard

Fall Retreat: Fiction Writing for Adults
Thursday–Sunday, November 4–7, 2010

at the Wilson Center

The Wilson Center is pleased to announce a Creative Writing initiative starting with an intensive, 3-day fiction-writing seminar for adults with best-selling author Jacquelyn Mitchard.

This is the first major step in expanding the scope of arts activity at the Wilson Center. Jacquelyn Mitchard’s first novel, The Deep End of the Ocean, was named by USA Today as one of the ten most influential books of the past 25 years and was chosen as the first novel in the book club made famous by TV host Oprah Winfrey.

From idea to page, this retreat-structured course is for adults who have tried or considered writing fiction, focusing on the meaning and practice of key elements including structure, description, and dialogue. You will discover the essence of your subject, why it matters, and how to begin—whether you have a partial manuscript or notes for an idea.

Participants will enjoy:

  • An intimate, intensive creative writing experience with an acclaimed author
  • Most meals, refreshments, and hotel provided
  • The beautiful surroundings of the Wilson Center and Mitchell Park
  • Free ticket to attend the Wilson Center’s jazz performance by Kurt Ollmann and Jack Forbes Wilson

Tuition (all inclusive): $1,995 per person
