Figure Painting (18+ or with parent permission)
Wednesdays, Feb 1−Mar 21, 6:00−8:30 pm
Working from a live nude model, students will develop their skills in traditional and contemporary painting practices. Learn color manipulation, line, form, and brushstroke. Acrylics or oil may be used. Open to all skill levels. Past students are welcome to return.

Valentines (ages 14+)
Saturday, Feb 11, 10:00 am−2:30 pm
Learning the basics of relief printmaking, students will create images on plates and print a set of heartfelt valentines in this workshop. Please bring a bagged lunch.

Wearable Fiber (ages 10+)
Tuesdays, Mar 6−Apr 3, 6:00−8:30 pm
Learn how to decorate fiber using wet felting, block printing, embellishment, and silk painting techniques. Students will create four unique, hand-made wearable art accessories: a felted bead necklace, a hand-printed cotton tote bag, an embellished fabric cuff, and a hand-painted silk scarf. Open to all skill levels. Fun for the whole family!

Classical Drawing (ages 14+)

Open Studio: Spring Session (ages 14+)
Fridays, Mar 16−May 4, 4:00−6:00 pm
Take advantage of the opportunity to use the Wilson Center Art Studio for your own projects. This is an independent work opportunity with no formal instruction. Sample studio materials and tools, such as paints, brushes, and clay. Pottery wheels are available for students to create a unique ceramics piece. (Limitations and extra costs may apply.)

Intro to Design (ages 14+)
Wednesdays, Mar 28−May 2, 6:00−8:30 pm
Real world examples will be used in this hands-on course exploring principles of design. Through lecture, discussion, demonstration and work time, each class will explore how text, numbers, symbols and colors integrate to create an eye catching design. Open to all skill levels.

Book Binding: Interesting Interiors (ages 14+)
Thursdays, Apr 12−May 10, 6:00−8:30 pm
Learn multiple ways to create interest inside the bound book. Students will bind hard and soft cover books, explore how to manipulate pages by adding pockets, cutting out shapes, and folding. Past bookmaking students are encouraged to return, and new students are always welcome!

Watercolor Crayons (ages 14+)

Intro to Drawing (ages 14+)
Mondays, Feb 20−Apr 2, 6:00−8:30 pm

Students will learn the basics of drawing and be introduced to materials and techniques for observational drawing practices. Working from still life and other resources, students will be taught form, line, and shading.
This class is meant for beginners who want to start their drawing journey!

Digital Photography Workshop (ages 14+)
Thursdays, Apr 5−19, 6:00−8:30 pm

This is an exciting three session digital photography workshop designed to help students enjoy taking pictures with their digital point-and-shoot cameras. Learn how to use the controls on a camera, become familiar with photography techniques terminology, and understand composition and subjects. In the Mount Mary Mac lab, students will learn a few digital editing tricks and become familiar with a digital workflow from camera to computer to printer to online sharing. Students should bring their digital cameras, camera manual (if available), power cords, and memory cards.

  • Session one: at the Wilson Center (learn the basics)
  • Session two: on location (photoshoot experience)
  • Session three: at Mount Mary College in the Mac lab (learn digital workflow)

Portrait Drawing (ages 14+)
Working from a live portrait model, students will learn drawing skills to create a portrait in the likeness of the model. Learn how to find proportions and see values. Open to all skill levels. Individual instruction and class demonstrations will be given.

Pottery On and Off the Wheel (ages 14+)
Learn how to create vases, mugs, jugs, and bowls. Students will start with clay handling and construction techniques. Then, moving on to wheel throwing students will learn how to combine processes to create unique results. Glazing and other ceramics skills will also be covered. Open to all skill levels. Past students are welcomed to return.
