Individual Instruction & Lessons
Individualized, private instruction offers one-on-one learning experiences in Voice, Piano, Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass, Flute, Trombone, Saxophone, and Theory. Lessons are available for all ages, levels, and styles of music with faculty who can best serve your individual needs. Early Childhood Classes—Sounds of Summer!
You and your child will enjoy singing, listening, playing rhythm instruments, and moving to music. At each theme based class we’ll take imaginary camping and boating trips while having fun with birds, rain, puddles, and rivers.

A reminder to our parents and caregivers: Only registered students are allowed in our early childhood classes. Please make arrangements for siblings or try one of our Families classes, ages 4 months–4 1/2 years. No classes July 4 or 5.

Imagine That! (Ages 4–5)
Children’s imaginations will soar as they recreate storybook tales through dramatization, music, and dance. Each week your child will bring to life music and performing arts themed books like “Swimmy” and “Down by the Bay” using theatrical exercises, sing-a-longs and movement games. Children will explore pitch, volume, rhythm and space as they learn beginning concepts of music. No classes July 4 or 5.

Prelude to Piano Discoveries (Entering K5 in fall 2008)
Your child will experience, discover, and learn basic musical and piano concepts that are age appropriate and presented in a fun setting. Children will learn a new piano piece each week. Curriculum continues with Piano Discoveries in fall of 2008. A piano or electronic keyboard at home is required. Please purchase prior to first class: Write and Listen Book 1 by Ann Collins and Linda Clary.

Classes for Teens & Adults

Sing to Your Health! (Ages 18 and Up)
If you love to sing and appreciate the health benefits of singing—deeper breathing, multi-sensory and memory stimulation, social interaction—join our “no pressure, just for fun” hour of song. We will review healthy singing practices then sing oldies but goodies, as well as more recent favorites. You do not need to know how to read music, but an ability to sing on pitch is desired.

Afro-Caribbean Hand Drumming (Ages 14 and Up)
Learn to play rhythms of Puerto Rico, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic. Students will learn proper hand technique for congas, bongos, timbales, and assorted percussion instruments, as well as learn to play in several Afro-Caribbean song styles. Instruments are provided for class use.
Level I: Students will learn basic techniques and fundamental rhythms. These components, presented against a historical backdrop, will facilitate the understanding and playing of specific Afro-Caribbean song styles.

Trombone Choir (Ages 16 and Up)
This performance class will develop the student’s ensemble skills, stylistic awareness, and sound concept while exploring the rich repertoire for trombone. A concert completes the experience. Intermediate to advanced playing levels.

Brass Ensemble (Ages 14 and Up)
For players of the trumpet, trombone, French horn, euphonium (baritone), and tuba with an intermediate to advanced playing ability. Coaching sessions will culminate in a performance at the Conservatory. Call Conservatory Student Services at 414-276-5760 to schedule placement interview.
