"Terese Agnew, A Retrospective" Location: Ploch Art Gallery Included in this exhbit is the unveiling of "Portrait of a Textile Worker", an 8' x 9' quilt created entirely out of thousands of clothing labels. The image is of a textile worker at her sewing machine in Bangladesh and is based on a photograph by Charles Kernaghan, President of the National Labor Committee. Agnew's vision is to make visible one worker among millions who make the clothing we wear and things we use. Hundreds of people from all over the world have contributed labels to help in the construction of the portrait and their names will also be part of the exhibit. The quilt will be on display at the Wilson Center January 28 - February 12 only. Terese still needs more labels to complete the image - especially white. Labels featuring proper names of designers are especially poignant in this work too. Labels will be needed right up until the quilt is completed in January 2005. Contributors are asked to cut labels from their clothing and mail them to, Terese Agnew, P.O. Box 11093, Shorewood, WI 53211.
